Newmarket to Barrow and Hawstead – 13 April 2017

Leader: Derek

Riders: Joe, Mike, , Mal, Bill, Terry,

Distance: 40 miles

Started alongside the Gallops in Newmarket. Cool but mostly bright day with a stiff easterly breeze. Started on the Gallops watching the dozens of horses racing up the hill and walking down the other side (Tip: do not lean you bike against the fence, or even lay it down near the fence – the jockeys ask you to move them as it can spook the horses).  Headed off, following the rolling hills of NCN51 towards Bury, stopping at the Udder Room in Barrow which is an interesting cafe attached to a shop for country pursuits. Continued to Bury before turn south towards Hawstead and the Maglia Rosso bike shop and cafe (watching a 100 lap scratch race on the TV), before finally heading back to Newmarket for a few more rolling hills.

Coffee – The Udder Room, Barrow

Lunch – Maglia Rosso, Hawstead
